The 2012 Committee of the Canterbury Software Cluster

The CSI Committee is elected at each Annual General Meeting typically held in early December. All positions are voluntary. During the year, the Committee, with support from other CSI members, organises monthly meetings as well as other events and activities. The 2012 Committee includes:

Ben Reid (Chair) - chair@canterburysoftware.org.nz
Ben Reid is Principal Consultant at Memia Ltd - a strategic consultancy focussed on the software industry. Originally from the UK, Ben moved to Christchurch, New Zealand in 2004 and worked as a software architect for Hewlett Packard, leaving to start Memia in 2008. Ben has worked in a diverse range of vertical industries and technologies over his 17-year software career, and brings a wide-angle strategic perspective to 21st-century software businesses. He currently acts as a director, board advisor and technology consultant to a number of  New Zealand software companies, and is enthusiastic about growing world-class technology businesses from Canterbury - one of the top innovation, commercial and lifestyle regions in the world!


Nancy Kane (Deputy Chair) - nkane@jadeworld.com
Nancy Kane is a Marketing Consultant at Jade Software responsible for marketing Jade's innovative products and services around the world, with special emphasis on the company's Logistics Management Software. She has worked in the technology sector for many years having previously worked at Unisys before joining Jade in 1992. Nancy understands how difficult it can be for New Zealand companies to market products overseas and has joined the Cluster to help support their efforts.

Matthew Biddick (Treasurer) - matthew@rpal.co.nz
Matthew is a chartered accountant and business advisor, and is an associate at Robert Purchas & Associates. He has fifteen years of financial and business experience gained in chartered accountancy and commercial fields in both New Zealand and Australia. He has had a wide exposure to various disciplines including business advisory services, management accounting, audit, taxation and is a Xero Certified Advisor. While Matthew provides services to clients in a variety of industries, he has a particular interest in software and technology companies. He has been a committee member since 2005.

Damian Brown - damian.brown@clarus.co.nz
Damian Brown is Principal Consultant - Project Management and Business Analysis at IT consulting firm Clarus. Damian has strong consulting project management skills, and is a qualified PRINCE2 practitioner, Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified ScrumMaster. Damian has a strong technical background with an understanding across a number of IT disciplines, primarily within the applications environment, voice, data, wireless networking, security, open systems, desktop rollouts, storage environments and operating systems. He is also experienced in the delivery of service based programmes such as ITIL and the associated process re-engineering and organisational change required to implement standards based programmes.


Nick Fogarty - Nicholas.Fogarty@nzte.govt.nz
Nick is Sector Manager ICT with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise with over 8 years international commercial experience. He works with a portfolio of Canterbury's leading Technology companies in order to support their international business development strategies. As a qualified Barrister and Solicitor or the High Court of New Zealand, he previously worked for London law firm Herbert Smith's commercial team before establishing a Spanish b2b consultancy linking NZ exporters with opportunities in the Iberian Peninsula. Nick then joined NZTE's Madrid office as Market Development Manager in 2007 prior to taking up the role of ICT Sector Manager in Christchurch in August 2010.

Dan Fowlie - dan.fowlie@trineo.co.nz
Dan is the founder and Principal Consultant at Trineo Ltd, a company that specialises in cloud application development – a new way of building and deploying web apps using cloud platforms such as Salesforce.com, Force.com and Ruby on Rails using Heroku.

Shelley Grell - shelley@communicateit.co.nz
Shelley Grell is the founder of Communicate IT, a PR and Marketing consultancy that since 1999 has supported innovators in the technology industry from startups to corporates. She first entered into PR in 1993 when she joined a leading London technology specialist PR firm as graduate Consultant. Since then Shelley has successfully raised the profile of numerous technology firms including Unisys, Oracle, and Radius in the UK, and Emendo, iTouch (now BlackBay), Syft Technologies, Binary Research, Nightside Test Design, TimeFiler and the Hi Tech Awards in New Zealand. Shelley is accredited in PR, has an honours degree in Psychology, English and Music from Thames Valley University, London and has certificates in Computer Programming and Photography. She has been a committee member of the Canterbury Software Cluster since 2004.

Jason Hoseason - jhoseason@deloitte.co.nz
Jason is a Manager in Deloitte’s Tax division. Throughout his 15 year career as a tax specialist Jason’s clients have included software, electronics and high tech engineering companies. He spent two years on secondment in Vancouver working on technology and entertainment industry clients. Jason is qualified as a Chartered Accountant and admitted as a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.

David Johnstone - david@peopleresults.co.nz
David is the founding Director of People Results Ltd, a business consulting company that works with SME companies developing their growth strategies and resourcing and coaching their sales efforts. David has been involved in the HiTech industry since leaving University. He has worked in sales and management roles for Telecom NZ Ltd, Unisys, and Hindin Communications. David is a recent Past President of the Rotary Club of Riccarton, on the Board of Cholmondeley Children's Home Inc and has been on the Canterbury Software Committee for 5 years, and served as Chair during 2010-2011.

Andrei Link - andrei_link@trimble.com
Andrei Link is a Product Manager at Trimble - a leading provider of advanced positioning, software and wireless solutions. He has worked for Trimble in several software development and marketing management positions. Andrei has considerable expertise in international software development and marketing, and has published articles and reviews in the "Multilingual Computing" magazine. He has served on committees and boards of several organisations and assisted a number of Canterbury companies as a Business Mentor and Exporter Education Programme presenter. Andrei is a certified Google Advertising Professional and Project Management Professional, and holds an MBA degree specialising in marketing and finance.

Lee Sinclair - Lee.Sinclair@cdc.org.nz
Lee is the Client Manager for the Technology sector at the Canterbury Development Corporation. With 12 years practical international marketing experience and 6 years of client management within NZTE, Lee has developed an extensive network of business contacts for quality referrals, and experience in helping client companies to identify and remedy barriers to growth. With a new strategic direction at the CDC, Lee hopes to be able to use the cluster network to keep more Christchurch companies aware of the project opportunities that the strategy will offer.

Jonathan is founder of software firm Netresult Mobility, a software firm which provides mobile computing solutions to help all parts of the vehicle supply chain.

Jason is the Business Manager for Sourced, a specialist recruitment consultancy focused on the ICT industry. A native Cantabrian, Jason enjoyed a successful career in Architecture before a move across into Software Training & Consulting in 2008. Jason has accumulated a broad set of skills in his 14 year career, with specific strengths in Business & Systems Management and is responsible for driving the strategic growth and direction of a number of local businesses. Jason has a very strong interest in emerging technologies and is very passionate about Canterbury's IT industry and Software Cluster.
